From the 9th to the 13th of May, the students from Rivarela Elementary School and Novigrad-Cittanova Italian Elementary School who have been selected for mediation education stayed in the Spanish city of Vila Real, as the second part of an exchange of students from Croatian, Italian, French and Spanish cities within the ADTrans project. MEDES. Also, in March the students visited the Italian twinned city of Sacile, where they attended the first part of this education, which will create a basis for introducing mediation in schools, ie resolving conflicts of any kind in a peaceful, reasonable and constructive way.
During their stay in Spain, in addition to workshops on mediation, students attended the European Mediation Meeting “Classroom for Peace”, visited the cities of Peniscola and Valencia, locations full of history and culture, which completed the experience and made this experience unforgettable.
A final project meeting was held on Monday, May 9, to discuss the final steps, reporting and sustainability of the project itself. In addition to the project meeting, representatives of the City and schools participated in a formal reception of representatives from Novigrad-Cittanova, Sacile and La Reole in honor of Europe’s Day, where according to the program Mayor Anteo Milos gave a speech in which he expressed support for this type of projects about young people, connecting and sharing experiences.
The Mayor of Vila Real, José Benlloch, thanked the partners of Sacile, Novigrad-Cittanova and La Réole for their commitment to work in various fields, especially in education, a commitment that Vila-Real also holds firmly. During the event, students participating in the European program read phrases and expressions related to the values ​​of European peace and unity. A tree was symbolically planted together as part of the #UnArbolPorEuropa (Tree for Europe) campaign. This meeting is a step further in creating a long-term friendship with the Spanish city of Vila Real in the hope that new and challenging projects will be realized in the future.
